Thank you so much to everyone who has visited, donated, and/or pass along this blog. It is beautiful to see how much support the Spiro family truly has. Your graciousness has deeply touched many lives and has humbled far more.

Now some news for my mid-westerners: ALS WALKS ARE HAPPENING IN YOUR AREA! As many people already know this website was set up to create awareness and fund raise for a cure. A small number of people got together 2 years ago to walking honor of John Spiro and his family. Our group: SPIRO FIGHT CLUB! In year two the turn out in Frederick, Md was double that of the first, and double the amount raised. We would love to see Spiro Fight Club members walk in states all over the US, now in memory of an incredible man.

John Andrew Spiro: September 6, 1954- January 16, 2011

With such sorrow we are saddened to announce the passing of John Spiro on Jan 16th 2011. He has fought a heroic battle with ALS and this faithful servant of the Lord is now at peace.

This blog will serve as a place for people to donate in an effort to help John's family through this difficult time.

Welcome to our page!!!

Welcome to the Spiro Fight Club Supporters page. Our ultimate goal is to support Gabriel, Joseph, Amanda, Kathy & John Spiro as they face the challenges with ALS.

If you don’t already know John has been diagnosed with ALS over a year ago. And if you have never seen the disease first hand, you may not know how difficult life can be. ALS, often called Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a neurodegenerative disease that is ultimately fatal. In essence this means you slowly lose the ability to control and move muscles in your body. ALS is a horrible disease for everyone involved and is unfortunately unable to be cured.

Since his diagnosis, John and his family have struggled and overcome so many obstacles.

The family has redesigned their home to be wheelchair accessible, the family has functioned on Kathy’s salary alone, had to rely on Metro Access Lift Vans, has taken on increasing responsibilities at home with John’s  constant care and  including daylong doctors appointments. This has been a highly emotional time for their family.

Luckily (although there is no luck involved with this) the Spiro family has SO much love and support. If you have never met this family, the only thing you need to know is they are beyond selfless, loving, and giving people. Even though their lives are difficult, the Spiro’s rarely focus on themselves. They are, by far, the most warm and kind people you will ever meet. During trying times, any member of this family would be there, without thought, to support you through.

But now they need your support!!!!

Since the latest progression of John’s ALS, Kathy (John’s wonderful wife) has decided to take an unpaid leave of absence from work. This will make trying times even more financially difficult. Please help this AMAZING family. A little goes a long way!
